Restaurant Review: Andy’s Pizzeria And Diner

Yet another pizza place that serves mediocre food, Andy’s Pizzeria and Diner in Khar West is a cross between a trendy joint and a fine-dining restaurant. The walls have pictures of food, and I fail to understand why one would want to look at pictures of food while eating, and some bright guy thinks you might want to look at a television screen set to a channel dedicated to cookery while the candle on your table is burning in the bright setting, in case you want to look at the silly cartoons and read the poor jokes on the table mats. The waiters aren’t as confused as the ambience, and are quite helpful, freely making suggestions, but there isn’t anything that will make you return to Andy’s Pizzeria and Diner. The food is average and overpriced, and you might have a good time if you’re drinking alcohol, but with the creamy mushroom soup, we found it hard to relax because of the commercial house music they were playing. They later switched to old pop music, making me happy, but then the boring vegetarian pizza came along, making me unhappy. The only pork topping they have is pepperoni, and that’s fucking cliched, even more than jalapenos and mozzarella. If your friends drag you to Andy’s Pizzeria and Diner, you should drink alcohol so that it isn’t a complete waste of time.

Restaurant Review: Steak House

Steak House (next to Toto’s Garage Pub) is a place I go to once a year to see if the quality of food has improved. My way of checking is ordering something that their menu says is a must-try. This time I ask for a well-done tenderloin steak, and my dining companion for the evening asks for tamarind garlic prawns. You can tell the place hasn’t been doing well because its name has been changed to Not Just Steak House and it now serves Chinese and continental food as well. The prawns are quite nice, and I can’t help licking the tangy garlicky sauce off the plate, but the tenderloin steak shows up medium-rare. It’s close to midnight, and being too tired to send it back, we finish it off with the barbeque sauce. Maybe next year.

Restaurant Review: Papa Pancho Da Dhaba

You may be forgiven for thinking you’re in for a good time when you walk into Papa Pancho Da Dhaba, for the décor is fantastic. We walk into the original one at Pali Naka, Bandra because we’re tired of waiting for a table at Jai Hind Lunch Home and one of the chicks wants to pee. Too much information. The ‘dhaba’ setting at Papa Pancho Da Dhaba is perfect, it looks like a very colourful dhaba. A glass of buttermilk at Papa Pancho Da Dhaba costs 80 bucks. The other lady asks for Lassi (85/-) which comes in a huge glass and tastes exactly like Aarey Lassi, which is a good thing, except Aarey’s Lassi is ten times cheaper.

I have a glass of water and decide on Bhuna Gosht and Mutton Biryani. The Bhuna Gosht comes in a brass thali (I’m a sucker for such things) with dahi, two parathas and kali dal. The mutton is succulent and the dahi is perfect, but it isn’t worth 250 rupees. The black dal isn’t very good, either.

The Mutton Biryani comes with kachoombar and papad, but isn’t worth 225 bucks. I’d be happy if the biryani was bursting with flavour, but it’s not. I’m not even going to bother with any vegetarian food here; the prices are making me laugh. Everything here is overpriced, and if Papa Pancho Da Dhaba can’t impress me with a dal, a mutton gravy, or a rice dish, I don’t have any reason to waste more money trying other stuff here. Next!
