Music Review: Misled By Certainty

Listening to Cephalic Carnage’s latest feels like being slapped in the face a few times. Misled By Certainty is not all grind, and is for most part technical death metal done extremely well. Musically brilliant throughout, Cephalic Carnage go into several directions on whenever they feel like without loosening their iron grip on your attention while your mind is molested into agreeing with them, even when your unbelieving ears hear a saxophone. The singer does so many variations that the vocals never sound boring or tired at any point, and as for the bassist, guitarists and drummer, well… they’re all fucking insane. Misled By Certainty is very unpredictable and highly enjoyable.

Music Review: The Farthest Reaches

Son Of Aurelius pushes the boundaries of death metal with The Farthest Reaches, a technical/progressive album that astounds from the start and keeps you stunned long after it has ended. With plenty of melodies and complex riffs and insane drumming, Son Of Aurelius spreads everything out and makes The Farthest Reaches exciting for as long as it plays. Each and every note is crystal clear, as are all the drum hits. I can’t decide if it’s the brutal parts or the crazy soloing that impress me more, and the clean parts on The Farthest Reaches are to die for. Son of Aurelius‘ debut is a treat for fans of technical death metal!

The Most Disturbing Thing I’ve Ever Heard

Think something can actually mess with my head? Neither did I, considering I’m always eager to hear tales of gore and look forward to people I don’t like dying in fancy ways. I was in perfect mental health till my friend Sahil Mane narrated an incident which is now stuck in my head.

On Arossim Beach in Panaji, Goa, comes a dog friendly as any other. This dog, named Dhanno, digs a hole in the sand to remove a crab hiding underneath. Dhanno then maims it with a paw, and then proceeds to gravely wound some 20-25 more crabs this way. Just when Mr Mane is wondering if this is sport, the dog devours all the injured crabs one by one!

Of course, I’ve heard of dogs that prey, and of course, I think crabs should be eaten, but the thought of a dog getting so technical and brutal with the sideways-walking crustaceans comes as a bit of a shock to me. So it’s only humans that hunt other beings for fun and games, yeah?
