I couldn’t finish this one. London Pilsner Strong should have been just a stronger version of LP Mild, but this beer is sickening. Not only can I taste the alcohol but the drink feels thick and disgusting in my mouth. LP Strong fits right in the line of Indian beers people drink to get drunk. This stuff is undrinkable.

Another impressive beer from Fuller’s, London Black Cab Stout is coffee black and has a light aroma of chocolate. The taste bursts bitter on the tongue: strong coffee, followed by sweet dark chocolate. Not too thin, not too thick – this medium bodied stout feels good in the mouth. Nicely complex; I’m enjoying the roasted malt flavour of London Black Cab Stout. I’d pick up another 500 ml bottle of this offering from Fuller’s anytime!

Beer Reviews: London Pride | London Porter | Fuller’s Vintage Ale 2009 | Fruh Kolsch | Saison Dupont
A translucent amber drink that goes down easy, 1906 Reserva Especial sounds like it was named by a bhaiya. The Marzen isn’t very bad but isn’t good either. I’d save a lot of money if I could taste beers before buying them, but that way I wouldn’t get to drink more than four or five pints a year. 1906 is metallic, a bit malty, and it should have been kept in the reserva because there is nothing especial about it.

Beer Review: Estrella Galicia
A drink you shouldn’t spend your money on, Estrella Galicia is slightly more drinkable that the regular Estrella, but that doesn’t mean much. Galicia is one of the many adjunct lagers that are being imported to India – ordinary mass-produced beers that taste no different from the crap that’s made here. To say something nice about the soapy head… well, it leaves a decent lacing.

Beer Review: Früh Kölsch
A pour from 500 ml of this sophisticated-looking bottle into my Schneider Weisse glass presents a this pale amber liquid whose head goes from big to tiny quickly. Lots and lots of bubbles. The nose gives no warning of the pleasant sourness the taste gives. Graininess that rests on the tongue for enough time to keep you from chugging the drink; Früh Kölsch is a very clean ale, and the first beer I’m enjoying this year. It’s also the first kölsch I’m having, so I have no comparisons to make, but if I didn’t know this was an ale I’d think it was a very fine lager. I’m keeping myself from taking gulping this light bodied beer because it’s so enjoyable and I’d drink this every now and then if it weren’t so costly. What I’d like with Früh Kölsch is a seafood platter.

Beer Review: Sol Cerveza
This Mexican beer looks unambitious and though that’s not necessarily a bad thing, the drink itself isn’t worth much. The pint looks just like Corona‘s and even the print on the back of the bottle is very similar. “The beer they drink in Mexico since 1899”, Sol is extremely watery and not even good enough to wash food down with. Corn and some graininess are all there is to the taste and I doubt even a lemon wedge would do anything to enhance the flavour. I wouldn’t recommend Corona to anyone either but that is better than this.

Beer Review: Estrella Damm
Some crackhead drank half of this pint of Estrella Damm when I was unconscious, and I would have cracked his head open if this beer from Barcelona had been worth drinking. These adjunct lagers should come with a warning on the label to let me know what kind of filth to expect. It’s a bad beer, to put it simply. The smell by itself makes me not want to drink it, and the taste is of corn and malt and the drink is bitter in an unpleasant way. This is like Miller High Life, if you want a comparison. I hope Spain has something better to offer, because Estrella Damm is a beer I’ll never drink again.
